A DOLL'S HOUSE MOVIE CAST (1959) - PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: HUME CRONYN, JASON ROBARDS JR. - DOCUMENT 286631

A DOLL'S HOUSE MOVIE CAST: JASON ROBARDS and HUME CRONYN
Both are shown in a scene from the film, Robards standing over Hume, who is holding a travel bag and looking very upset
Photograph signed: "Jason Robards", "Hume Cronyn". B/w 8x10. Still from the TV-movie version of A Doll's House (1959). A decorated U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, JASON ROBARDS (1922-2000, born Jason Nelson Robards, Jr. in Chicago, Illinois) moved on to success on the Broadway stage. His best early film roles were encores of his earlier stage roles (Long Day's Journey Into Night, 1962; A Thousand Clowns (1965). Robards won two consecutive Best Supporting Actor Academy Awards (All The President's Men, 1976; Julia, 1977), and he was nominated for another (Melvin and Howard, 1980). The son of stage and screen actor Jason Robards, Sr., he appeared on Broadway with his dad in The Disenchanted (1958). Robards won a Tony for The Disenchanted and was nominated for six others. Canadian actor HUME CRONYN (1911-2003) entered film in 1943 and was nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor the following year for The Seventh Cross. He worked frequently with Alfred Hitchcock, adapting plays and novels for the screen and acting in both Hitchcock films and TV episodes. Married to Oscar-winning actress Jessica Tandy from 1942 until her death in 1994, Cronyn co-starred often with her. The couple was especially popular as married senior citizens in such films as Cocoon (1985), as well as the stage and TV versions of The Gin Game. Cronyn remained active after Jessica's death, being mistaken for Santa Claus in Off Season (2001). A Doll's House, by Henrik Ibsen, shocked theater-goers in 1879 because of its feminism and because of its realistic departure from romantic norms. The play has been performed on Broadway over a dozen times and also in several films. The made for TV version of 1959 featured a stellar cast including Julie Harris, Christopher Plummer and Eileen Heckart as well as Robards and Cronyn. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
