A NEW KIND OF LOVE MOVIE CAST - PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: JOANNE WOODWARD, PAUL NEWMAN - DOCUMENT 278777

A NEW KIND OF LOVE MOVIE CAST: PAUL NEWMAN, JOANNE WOODWARD
Movie still from A New Kind of Love, with a young Newman sitting next to a glamorous Woodward puffing on a long cigarette holder
Photograph signed "Best Wishes/Joanne/Woodward" and "Paul Newman". Color, 10x7¾ overall, 9½x7½ image, one surface. A New Kind of Love (1963) was a rom-com that starred husband and wife Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Newman was Paul Sherman, a reporter covering new fashion lines in Paris, France, and Woodward was Samantha Blake, a plain girl woman who gets  a makeover in Paris and who is mistaken by Newman for a glamorous prostitute. Naturally, Blake plays along, resulting in all the usual rom-com madness. Nominated for eight Academy Awards for Best Actor, NEWMAN (1925-2008, born in Shaker Heights, Ohio) won the 1987 Oscar for portraying Fast Eddie Felson in The Color of Money (1986), the same character he played in The Hustler 25 years earlier (and which also earned him an Oscar nomination). His other nominated roles were Brick Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), Hud Bannon in Hud (1963), Lucas "Cool Hand" Jackson in Cool Hand Luke (1967), Michael Colin Gallagher in Absence of Malice (1981), Frank Galvin in The Verdict (1982) and Donald "Sully" Sullivan in Nobody's Fool (1994). He was nominated for a ninth Oscar, the 2003 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, for portraying John Rooney in Road to Perdition (2002). WOODWARD, born in Thomasville, Georgia in 1930, is one of the most acclaimed film actresses of her era. She is also highly visible as a television and theatrical performer, as well as a prominent social activist. Woodward received a Best Actress Academy Award in 1957 for her role in The Three Faces of Eve and again in 1969 for Rachel, Rachel. She also earned Best Actress honors at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival for The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. In addition to her wins, Woodward has also had several Oscar nominations and has been the recipient of numerous television Emmy awards. Lightly toned and creased. Parts of Woodward's signature are faint but legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
