Unsigned black and white photograph of Adams Rib stars Ken Howard and Blythe Danner
Photograph Unsigned: B/w 4x5. The 1973 series Adams Rib was based on the 1949 film starring Spencer Tracy and Kathryn Hepburn - Adam was an assistant DA and his wife, Amanda, was a defense attorney and women's rights crusader. Tony Award-winning actor KEN HOWARD (1944-2016) achieved stardom on the stage in 1969, when he played Thomas Jefferson in the hit musical 1776 (1969-1972). He later reprised the role in the 1972 film version. He won the Tony Award for Best actor for Child's Play in 1970, the same year he made his big screen debut. In 1973, Howard and frequent co-star Blythe Danner starred in Adam's Rib, a TV series version of the Tracy-Hepburn film. Neither that series nor Howard's subsequent shows, Manhunter (1974) and It's Not Easy (1983) did well in the ratings. Howard eventually found small screen success as Ken Reeves, a basketball coach at Los Angeles' Carver High School, in the hour-long dramatic series The White Shadow (1978-1981). He later had a recurring role as Garret Boydston on both Dynasty (1981-1989) and its spin-off, The Colbys (1985-1986). More recent recurring credits include Crossing Jordan (2001-2007) and 30 Rock (2006-2013). His film credits include Clear and Present Danger (1994), At First Sight (1999), and The Judge (2014). The well-respected actor was elected to be President of the Screen Actors Guild in 2009, a position he held until his death in 2016. BLYTHE DANNER (b. 1943), a "critic's darling" thanks to her husky voice and pleasantly mannered acting style, has worked with distinction in TV and on stage, though her film roles have tended to be few and far between. She was memorable as Robert Duvall's long-suffering wife in The Great Santini (1980) and as Nick Nolte's wife in The Prince of Tides (1991), while in 1986's Brighton Beach Memoirs, the decidedly WASPish Danner surprised fans by portraying a middle-aged Jewish woman. In 1992, she did stellar work in the made-for-TV movie Cruel Doubt. More recently she appeared in the hit Meet the Parents (2000). She is the mother of actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Paper residue (previous mounting) on verso. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Lightly creased at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
