ADRIENNE BOLLAND - PICTURE POST CARD SIGNED CIRCA 1921 - HFSID 100241

ADRIENNE BOLLAND
B/w French picture post card of aviator Adrienne Bolland from the neck up in a flight helmet and wool sweater. Bolland was the first woman to fly over the Andes.
Picture post card signed "Adrienne Bolland". Typed and black ink notations in French on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 3½x5½. French post card, blank on verso except for notations. Bolland (1896-1975) was a French aviator and the first woman to fly over the Andes mountain range, on April 1, 1921. She was a test pilot for France's Caudron Airplane Company, which conceived the flight as a publicity stunt to promote its new G3 biplane. Bolland made the flight in 10 hours, taking off from Mendoza, Argentina and landing Santiago, Chile. Bolland also flew over the English Channel on Aug. 25, 1920. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Lightly worn at edges. Light scuff marks on image. Otherwise in fine condition.
