Sepia-toned Argentine picture post card by Arcas of aviator Adrienne Bolland in a flight suit and mussed hair and standing in front of a biplane. Bolland took off from Argentina in 1921 to become the first woman to fly over the Andes.
Picture post card signed "Adrienne Bolland". B/w sepia-toned, 3½x5½. Argentine post card, blank on verso. Photo by Arcas. Bolland (1896-1975) was a French aviator and the first woman to fly over the Andes mountain range, on April 1, 1921. She was a test pilot for France's Caudron Airplane Company, which conceived the flight as a publicity stunt to promote its new G3 biplane. Bolland made the flight in 10 hours, taking off from Mendoza, Argentina and landing Santiago, Chile. Bolland also flew over the English Channel on Aug. 25, 1920. Lightly toned. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Lightly worn at corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
