AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' BROADWAY CAST
Rare Opening Night Playbill for Ain't Misbehavin'
Show Bill signed: "Best Wishes/Nell Carter", "André de Shields/Best/regards!", "Armelia McQueen", "Best to Sue/Ken Page" and "Love to ya!/Charlaine Woodard" on the cast page, 72 pages, 5½x9. Opening Night Playbill for Ain't Misbehavin', which opened at the Longacre Theatre on May 9, 1978 and ran for 1,604 performances, closing on February 21, 1982. Includes b/w photos and bios of the cast of the Fats Waller musical. NELL CARTER (1948-2003), who created her role in the first production of the musical at the Manhattan Theatre Club in the Spring, won a 1978 Tony Award for her performance. Four years later, she won an Emmy Award when the production was aired on television. ANDRÉ DE SHIELDS had created the title role in the Tony Award-winning musical, The Wiz. ARMELIA McQUEEN had toured the U.S. in a number of national companies, appearing in Guys and Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy, Show Boat and Hair. KEN PAGE had made his Broadway debut as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in an all-Black revival of Guys and Dolls. CHARLAINE WOODARD, nominated for a Tony for her performance in Ain't Misbehavin', had first starred on the Great White Way in a revival of Hair, working on the film version (in which Carter made her film debut) at the same time. Cover is lightly creased, soiled at blank areas. Overall, fine condition.
