As Postmaster General, he thanks an insurance company for a favorable mention.
Typed Letter signed: "A. S. Burleson as Postmaster General", 1 page, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1915 June 26. On official letterhead to Farmers National Life Insurance Co., Chicago, Illinois. In full: "I beg to acknowledge your letter of June 8th, transmitting therewith a copy of the booklet issued by your company. I have read with interest the paragraph written by Mr. Stahl, and desire to express my appreciation of the friendly spirit which prompted it. It is indeed gratifying to me to have such expressions of confidence and approval as those contained in the article referred to. With best wishes I am very sincerely". Albert Sidney Burleson (1863-1937) was a U.S. Representative from Texas (1899-1913) and U.S. Postmaster General under President Wilson (1913-1921). His grandfather, Edward Burleson, was Vice President of the Republic of Texas (1841-1844). As Postmaster General, Burleson introduced parcel post and airmail service, but persecuted black postal workers, re-segregating the post office and firing southern blacks. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly creased and toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
