ARCHDUKE OTTO. Photograph signed: "Otto v. Hapsburg". B/w, 3¾x5¾. Affixed to plain paper, with typed caption affixed to lower edge of photo. Archduke Otto (born 1912), also known as Otto von Habsburg, was the son of Charles I, the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary (1916-1918). When his father died, the ten-year-old became the pretender to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Archduke Otto, who lives in Bavaria, is a former member of the European Parliament, an advocate of European unity, and the author of a dozen books on world affairs. He has stated that he refused an offer from Hitler to restore him to the throne if he accepted the Nazi ideology. Photo trimmed around image of signer. Mounting sheet also irregularly trimmed. Otherwise, fine condition.
