JAMES F. BYRNES
The Secretary of State sends a letter to author Guy Lynn Sumner thanking him for sending an autographed copy of "Meet Abraham Lincoln".
Typed letter signed "James F. Byrnes" as The Secretary of State. 1 page, 7x9. Washington, D.C., 1946 February 15. Typed on Secretary of State letterhead with embossed Great Seal in upper left corner. Addressed to Mr. G. Lynn Sumner, New york, New York. In full: "I want to thank you for your thoughtfulness in sending me an autographed copy of "Meet Abraham Lincoln." I shall read it with great interest. With best wishes to you, I am Sincerely," In addition to serving as Secretary of State from July 1945 to January 1947, James F. Byrnes (1882-1972) was on the Supreme Court for 15 months (1941-1942), the shortest term in history, and served in the House and Senate and as the 104th Governor of South Carolina (1951-1955). Horizontal mailing fold. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
