ASSOCIATE JUSTICE LOUIS D. BRANDEIS - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 06/12/1936 - DOCUMENT 253850

 
LOUIS D. BRANDEIS. ALS: "Louis D. Brandeis" as Associate Justice, 1p, 5x7¾. On Supreme Court stationery but penned from Chatham, Mass., 1936 June 12. Headed: "Personal". To Meyer Bloomfield. In full: "Re yours of 5th my thanks for your letter. If you chance to be on the Cape during the Summer, do let me see you. Read Herman's 'Life Insurance a Critical Examination' an admirable presentation- at which Savings Bank Insurance is used as the yardstick. And note the Enclosed." Enclosure not present. Brandeis adds that the book was "published by Harper & Bros. May 20th". The first major employment managers' association was established in Boston in 1910 under the chairmanship of Meyer Bloomfield. Louis D. Brandeis had known Bloomfield from his days as a Boston attorney when he became known as "The People's Lawyer". On January 28, 1916, President Wilson appointed Brandeis the first Jewish Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. He served until he retired in 1939. Slightly soiled and creased.
