ASSOCIATE JUSTICE LOUIS D. BRANDEIS - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 01/07/1903 - DOCUMENT 175755

 
LOUIS D. BRANDEIS. Early TLS: "Louis D. Brandeis", 1p, 8x10½. Boston, Mass., 1903 January 7. On Brandeis, Dunbar & Nutter stationery to Charles H. Tyler, Esq., Boston. The first Jew appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court (1916-1939) writes to a colleague about "the settlement made in the Bryant matter today". Brandeis, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Wilson, was at this time practicing law in Boston (1879-1916), building his reputation as "the people's attorney". Creased with folds. Folds do not touch signature, which is heavily penned. Staple holes and file holes at upper margin.
