Autograph Letter signed: "Mary and Tom C. Clark", as Associate Justice, 6x4½. Washington, D.C., 1975 May 18. On Supreme Court card. To: "Dear Mr. and Mrs. Heller:-" In full: "Mary and I celebrated our 50th Wedding anniversary November 8th, 1974 and so we know all about Golden Wedding Days! Congratulations! We never dreamed that you were in our age bracket for you always looked so young and acted so spry. Now you have caught up with us and we are honored to have you. Leviticus teaches us: And ye shall hallow the 50th year; it shall be a jubilee unto you; Ye shall not sow, neither reap...For it is Jubilee; it shall be holy unto you' and it was unto us; may it be unto you! Affectionately," Fine condition. With postmarked Supreme Court envelope addressed by Clark. Lightly creased, else fine. Special Assistant in the Justice Department (1937-1943) and Assistant Attorney General (1943-1945) under FDR, Clark (1899-1977) was appointed Attorney General by Truman in 1945 and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in 1949. When his son Ramsey was appointed Attorney General by LBJ in 1967, Tom C. Clark resigned as Associate Justice to avoid any possible conflict of interest. Two items.
