August Belmont II signs a check for $241.00 to E. M. Norwood.
Check Signed: "August Belmont", 6½x2¾. New York, New York, 1891 January 3. Drawn on The Bank of the State of New York, payable to E. M. Norwood for $241.00. Endorsed on verso: "E. M. Norwood" Belmont (1853-1924) took full control of August Belmont & Company upon his father's death in 1890. Belmont was also a dominant figure in horseracing. The year after this letter, the Westchester Racing Association, which Belmont had helped found, began building the Belmont Park racetrack (1903-1905), named after his father. Lightly creased. Bank cancellation marks and cuts not near signature. Fold creases through "l" of Belmont. Otherwise, fine condition.
