BARON ABINGER I (JAMES SCARLETT) - AUTOGRAPH ENVELOPE SIGNED - DOCUMENT 81111

 
JAMES SCARLETT, 1st BARON ABINGER
Signature on the panel of an envelope addressed to his grandson, a future baron
Envelope Panel signed: "Abinger", 4x2¾. Affixed to sheet of same size. Addressed by Abinger to Master W.F. Scarlett, Mickleham. Successful barrister Abinger was made Attorney General by Prime Minister Canning in 1827. He was Chief Baron of the Exchequer from 1834-1844. Baron Abinger was influential in reforming legal administration. "Master W. F. Scarlett" was no doubt William Frederick Scarlett (1826-1892), who would become the 3rd Baron Abinger upon the death of his own father, Robert Scarlett, the intervening title holder Rippled from mounting. See through at corners from mounting remnants. Lower right corner missing.
