BARON ABINGER II (ROBERT SCARLETT) - AUTOGRAPH SENTIMENT SIGNED CIRCA 1848 - DOCUMENT 142000

ROBERT SCARLETT, 2ND BARON ABINGER
His signature from a clipped closing
Autograph Sentiment signed: "I am your Obedient Servant/Abinger", 3¾ x1 ¼ sheet, attached to slightly larger piece Ink caption (unknown hand). James Scarlett (1769-1844), a prominent British jurist, the Attorney General under Prime Ministers Canning and Wellington (1827-1830), was given the title of Baron Abinger in 1835. His eldest son, ROBERT SCARLETT (1794-1861) inherited the title and himself became a barrister. Robert Scarlett's younger brother, James Yorke Scarlett, a cavalry officer, led the charge of the Heavy Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava (Crimean War, 1854), an attack just as reckless as, but more successful than, the "Charge of the Light Brigade" at the same battle, immortalized in the Tennyson poem. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
