BARTIMEUS (LEWIS ANSELM DA COSTA RICCI) - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 04/09/1924 - HFSID 81546

BARTIMEUS (LEWIS ANSELM DA COSTA RICCI)
The short story writer types this letter thanking the recipient for sending pamphlets on Tasmania
Typed Letter signed: “Bartimeus” 1p, 4½x7 affixed to 4¾x9½ slip of paper with caption adhered to verso. Sydney, April 9, 1924. Written on H.M.S. Dunedin letterhead. To “Dear Sir”. In full: “It gave me great pleasure to receive your letter and the pamphlets on Tasmania. It was a matter of great regret to me that I was not able to see Hobart. I spent a fortnight touring in Victoria and New South Wales instead, but perhaps if the Gods are good I shall see Tasmania some day./ Believe me,/ Sincerely yours". Bartimeus (1886-1967) was the pen name of Lewis Anselm da Costa Ricci. During World War I Ricci was a paymaster in the British Navy and served on Admiral Jellicoe's battleship at the Battle of Jutland. Bartimeus drew on his military experiences in his writing and his short stories portraying naval life were immensely popular. One horizontal mailing fold. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
