BRIGADIER GENERAL HENRY L. ABBOT - MANUSCRIPT LETTER SIGNED 11/18/1871 - HFSID 101517

 
HENRY L. ABBOT. Manuscript LS: "Henry L. Abbot" as Major of Engineers Commanding, 1p, 7½x10. Headquarters, Battalion of Engineers, Willet's Point, N.Y.H., 1871 November 18. To Second Auditor of the Treasury, Washington, D.C. In full: "I have the honor to transmit herewith Return of Deceased Soldiers of the Battalion of Engineers for the month of September and October 1871." Henry Larcom Abbot (1831-1927) was a military engineer who graduated from West Point in 1854 and served in the United States Army until 1895. During the 1850s, Lt. Henry L. Abbot and Capt. A.A. Humphreys conducted a thorough scientific survey of Mississippi River flow from the river's junction with the Ohio southward to its emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. Lightly creased.
