JOHN T. MORGAN
John T. Morgan writes to President Abraham Lincoln hoping to persuade him to sign a bill regarding the Indian Territory in modern day Oklahoma. Signed twice.

To "Mr. President" In full: "If the Indian's current bill (for the Indian Territory) should reach you in time, may I ask that you will consider it, it is thoroughly well preferred and in [illegible]. I wish that it could have gone further, but they will be the crowning act of your Indians nicety." Morgan (1824-1907) was commissioned a Colonel in 1862 and raised the 51st Alabama Cavalry. Appointed Brigadier General in 1863, he was assigned to a brigade in Virginia but resigned to return to his regiment after its Colonel had been killed in battle. Otherwise, fine condition.
