BRIGADIER GENERAL NATHAN W. BROWN
Signing as US Army Paymaster, Retired
Signature: "N. W. Brown/Brig Genl USA, Retired/late Paymaster Genl USA", 5½x3. Nathan Williams Brown (1819-1893), the grandson of Jacob Jennings Brown, one of the US Army most successful general in the War of 1812, joined the Army in 1839. His service, including Civil War service, was mostly on the Western frontier. He was appointed US Army Paymaster by President Grant in February 1869, serving until his 1882 retirement. He was brevetted brigadier general in1867. Lightly creased and toned. Lower margin slightly frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
