The Brigadier General Perico A Perez writes an interesting letter to business man and activist Emilio Bacardi asking him to take good care of Commander Candelario Melles and referring to the destiny of the remains of General Jiler
Autograph Letter Signed: "P.A. Perez" in iron gall ink. 10x8. Two pages. Fully Translated in English: "Guantanamo November 30, 1898. Sr. Emilio Bacardi: My very dear sir and friend of mine, through this letter I send you I hope you are good. Distinguished friend: today Commander Candelario Melles is going to that city. I would like you to find the best way to get treatment for him, because he was brave in the war and I appreciate him very much. About the remains of General Jiler, you will discuss that with his family, on my part I am ready to send it but Sr. Higinio Medrano told me the family told him they were happy if the remains stayed here. Without any other particular for today, I congratulate you for your destiny and hopefully God wants that you and I have the wisdom to rule. Yours S.S. P.A. Perez" Brigadier General Perico Perez served in the Cuban Army in the Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898); he is best known for his successful leadership of a 1,000-man cavalry who defeated Spanish Colonel Cosch on April 16 and April 18 at Sabana de Jaibo. Signer merits for further research. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Stained throughout. Worn and soiled. Creased throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
