BRIGADIER GENERAL STUART R. BOYD - FIRST DAY COVER SIGNED - HFSID 266978

 
STUART BOYD. First Day Cover signed: "Brig Gen Stu Boyd", 6½x3¾. FDC for the 10-cent domestic Air Mail postal rate, two 10-cent stamps affixed, postmarked San Francisco, CA, January 5, 1968, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Promoted to Brigadier General on May 1, 1985, Stuart R. Boyd had graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy as a navigator and entered pilot training at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona in September 1961. After serving as an instructor pilot at Craig Air Force Base, Alabama, Boyd was assigned to Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, where he flew with the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron ("Night Owl"). During that time, Boyd flew more than 107 combat missions in Southeast Asia, including 100 over North Vietnam. Upon returning to the U.S., he graduated from the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California, where he became involved in the F-111 flight test and the supercritical wing test program for NASA. General Boyd later managed several development programs and became Commander of the International Logistics Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He later served as Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology and Commandant of the Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management at Wright-Patterson before retiring from the military in 1991. General Boyd's decorations include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal with 11 oak leaf clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. Upper loops of the "B" and "d" of Boyd touch postmark. Slightly creased and rippled. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso, which is slightly soiled. Fine condition.
