The World War II navy fighter ace signs a cover honoring the "Jenny" aircraft
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Bruce Barackman/VF-50/5 confirmed kills", 6½x3¾. Ink stamp cachet replicates a 24-cent stamp honoring a "Jenny"-type biplane of the 1920s, postmarked Louisville, Kentucky, November 5, 1989, 25-cent US flag stamp affixed. Bruce M. "Booty" Barackman (1919-2006) joined the US Navy in 1940, becoming a flight instructor. In June 1944, flying an F6-F Hellcat fighter from the carriers Bataan and Cowpens, he became an ace by shooting down 5 Japanese planes in five days over Iwo Jima. Barackman commanded a squadron of Corsair fighters during the Korean War, and retired as a captain in 1961. As a civilian, he rose to Vice President of the National Trade Association and corporate secretary of the Chemical Manufacturers Association. Fine condition.
