Color image of the former House Speaker
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Michael Robuck/Best wishes/Carl Albert". Color, 8x10. Carl Albert (1908-2000), who was known as "The Little Giant From Dixie", served as a Democratic Congressman from Oklahoma from 1947-1977. In addition to being the Democratic Whip, he later served as House Majority Leader (1962-1971) and Speaker of the House (1971-1976). The House Speakership was the highest US public office ever held by an Oklahoman. If President Nixon had been compelled to resign before Congressional confirmation of Gerald Ford as Vice President under the 25th Amendment, Albert would have been Acting President of the US. Toned. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
