CAROL M. ANDRUS (MRS. CECIL D. ANDRUS)
Signed black and white photo of the twice-served First Lady of Idaho
Photograph signed: "Carol M. Andrus" as First Lady of
Idaho. B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x9 (one surface). Carol M. Andrus was
the First Lady of Idaho twice - when her husband, Cecil Dale Andrus (born
in 1931), was the Democratic Governor of Idaho from 1971-1977 and then
again from 1987-1995 (he served longer than any other Governor in the state's
history). In 1977, Mr. Andrus was appointed as Secretary of the
Interior by President Jimmy Carter. Two years later, Carter demanded the
resignations of his entire Cabinet, but Andrus' resignation was not
accepted, and he continued to serve until the end of Carter's administration
in 1981. As Secretary of the Interior, Andrus created vast wilderness areas
in Alaska. He published a memoir, Politics, Western Style, in 1998.
As of January 2013, Carol had been married to her husband for 63 years.
Slightly creased at blank margins and corners, light black mark at lower right
margin. Minor surface creases and smudges (not evident head on). Fine
