The mass murderer sends a handwritten letter to a friend
Autograph Letter Signed: "Charles/Manson" in pencil, 2p, 8½x11 yellow lined sheet, front and verso. No place, but with original envelope with Manson's return label address from prison, Vacaville, California, metered postmark of August 27, 1984. Addressed by Manson to: "T.J. Ansome/228-3rd St/H.B. Calif 92648". In full, as written: "Ur Bite - I didn't remember the name - next time you come Ill put the years Ive know you - you got back from Vetnaum in 67 or 68 - thats 82/68/14 14 years - when you came I thought you were someone els - Looking forward to seeing your bald head - Im not much at this [illegible] game but it would be nice to see you - I've wondered about you but knowings always FAITH [smiling face]. I'm still not Hendo [illegible] what ever that is [face]. Im much the same --". At lower margin, Manson has written: "& 2 red Ive known her from birth [face]". Charles Manson (born in 1934) entered a world of Flower Children, free love and drugs. He soon attracted a "Family" of followers, and, by 1969, the group, under the influence of hallucinogenic drugs, began to talk openly of murder. Manson, a frustrated musician, chose musicians who had made the "big time" as his targets and devised a "death list". His code name for the day of reckoning was "Helter Skelter", from lyrics by the Beatles (ironically, a British term for a fairground ride). Manson sent Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, Susan Atkins and Linda Kasabian to film director Roman Polanski's home, where they murdered actress Sharon Tate and four others. The next night, Manson and six others killed the LaBiancas, a middle-aged couple. In December 1969, Manson and ten cultists were arrested. Two turned state's evidence, and Manson and eight cultists were convicted of murder. Manson was sentenced to death in April 1971 and sent to San Quentin's death row. After the California Supreme Court declared the death penalty unconstitutional in February 1972, Manson's sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. He has been incarcerated at Folsom Prison (October 1972-July 1985), San Quentin (July 1985-May 1976), Vacaville (May 1976-March 1989) and Corcoran. Despite repeated attempts for parole, Manson remains incarcerated, with his next hearing scheduled for 2007. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Light show through of writing. Otherwise, fine condition.
