CHIEF DAN (TES-WAH-NO) GEORGE - SIGNATURE(S) - HFSID 19690

 
CHIEF DAN GEORGE. Signature: "Chief Dan George" on verso of 5x3 ruled index card. Stage, screen and television actor Dan George (1899-1981), born Tes-wa-no in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, made his acting debut in the Canadian TV series, Cariboo Country, in 1960. In 1970, the year after he debuted in films in Smith!, George was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe for his role as Old Lodge Skins in Little Big Man. His other film credits include A Different Drum (1974), Harry and Tonto (1974), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) and Nothing Personal (1980, his last film), and George was also seen on television as a guest star on several series, including The High Chaparral (1969), Bonanza (1971), Marcus Welby, M.D. (1972), Kung Fu (1973) and McCloud (1975). He also played an "Old Sioux" in the 1978 miniseries, Centennial. George, who was Chief of the Squamish Band of Burrand Inlet, British Columbia from 1951-1963, also wrote two books of poetry and was a spokesman for Native American rights. Minor crease (barely visible) at the "o" of George. Stray ink mark at lower left margin. Fine condition.
