Rare autographed sentiment from the famed British mountaineer who's climbed Mount Everest 4 times!
Autograph sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/Ch. Bonington", 3x1½ affixed to 7¼x9½ sheet featuring a news article clipping from 1975. Chris Bonington (b.1934) is a British explorer and mountaineer. His many expeditions included 19 trips to the Himalayas, including four to Mount Everest and the first ever ascent of the south face of Annapurna. Born in Hampstead, London, Bonington received training from the Royal Fusiliers, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and the Royal Tank Regiment. While many of his expeditions were largely unsuccessful (ending in the deaths of his fellow explorers, Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker among others), Bonington lead a triumphant climb of Mount Everest in 1975. His stories of his life as a mountaineer have been recorded in a number of publications, including The Everest Years (1986) and his most recent book, Chris Bonington's Lakeland Heritage (2004). He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (1976), Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (2010) and in 1996 he was knighted for his services to the sport. Lightly toned and creased. Binding holes at right edge. Fine condition.
