CLEVELAND AMORY - PROGRAM SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: KITTY DUKAKIS, GEORGE V. HIGGINS - HFSID 306580

CLEVELAND AMORY, GEORGE V. HIGGINS & KITTY DUKAKIS
Three authors sign on the cover of a program for the 1990 Boston Globe Book & Author Luncheon.
Program signed: "Cleveland Amory", "Kitty Dukakis" and "George V. Higgins" signed on the front cover, 2 pages, 5½x8½. Program for the Boston Globe Book & Author Luncheon, on Saturday, October 27, 1990, at the Copley Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom. CLEVELAND AMORY (1917-1998) was an editor at Saturday Evening Post, a critic for TV guide, and a frequent guest on NBC's Today Show. In 1967 he resigned from the board of the Humane Society of the United States, believing its policies to be too cautious, and formed his own group, the Fund for Animals. He was President of the New England Anti-Vivisection Society for over 30 years. In his books about his cat, Polar Bear, rescued from the New York streets on Christmas Eve, and other writings, he championed animal rights. He recruited many celebrities for his campaign against the wearing of fur. Although not an organizer of the even more militant PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), he expressed sympathy for that group's "direct action" campaigns on behalf of animals. Today, the Humane Society and Fund for Animals jointly support the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, an animal sanctuary in Texas. Lawyer and former prosecutor GEORGE V. HIGGINS was immediately recognized as a premier crime novelist when The Friends of Eddie Coyle appeared in 1972. He also writes political fiction, as in A Choice of Enemies (1984). Higgins has written nonfiction works on politics, baseball, and the craft of writing. KITTY DUKAKIS, born Katharine Dickson on December 26, 1936 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is the wife of the former Massachusetts Governor and U.S. presidential candidate Michael Dukakis. She co-authored two books, Now You Know (2001) and Shock: The Healing Power of Electroconvulsive Therapy (2006). Slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
