CLIFFORD ALEXANDER
His ink signature (1999) on a card printed with national symbols
Printed Card signed in ink: "Clifford Alexander 3/99", 5x3½ Card imprinted on left side with 6 patriotic symbols. Clifford Alexander (b. 1933) was Secretary of the Army in the Carter administration (1977-1981), the first African-American to hold that post. Alexander was Assistant District Attorney for New York County (1959-1961), deputy White House counsel (1964-1967), chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (1967-1969). He taught law at Howard University and did TV commentary in Washington, DC before running unsuccessfully for mayor of that city (1974). His daughter, Elizabeth Alexander, an English professor at Yale, composed and recited a poem at President Obama's inauguration. Fine condition.
