CLIFFORD M. HARDIN
1973 Thomas Jefferson Memorial first day cover, signed by Clifford M. Hardin. He was U. S. Secretary of Agriculture under Richard M. Nixon from 1969 to 1971.
First day cover signed "Clifford M. Hardin". 6½x3½. First day cover honoring the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Postmarked Washington, DC, Dec. 14, 1973. One 10-cent blue-and-white Thomas Jefferson Memorial stamp affixed. FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Hardin (1915-2010) was a university professor and Chancellor of the University of Nebraska (1954-1969) before serving as U. S. Secretary of Agriculture from 1969 to 1971 under President Richard M. Nixon. He was succeeded as Agriculture Secretary by Earl L. Butz. Envelope is open and empty. Lightly toned and rippled. Lightly soiled on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
