The controversial Army Reserve Nurse signs a printed card bearing images of US landmarks
Printed card signed in ink: "Colonel/Margarethe Cammermeyer (ret)/26 Mar 99", 5x3½ card depicting six patriotic U.S. landmarks. Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer, a highly decorated nurse who has served in the Army, Army Reserve and National Guard, received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Bronze Star for distinguished service in Vietnam. Seeking admission to the Army War College in 1989, Cammermeyer was interviewed by the Defense Investigative Service in order to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. During the interview, she was asked about her sexual orientation. In a statement signed during the interview, she began, "I am a Lesbian...." Col. Cammermeyer was discharged in 1992 and her attorneys filed suit challenging the existing ban on homosexuals in the military, requesting her reinstatement. A judge ruled the policy was unconstitutional and in 1994, she was reinstated. She retired in 1997. Col. Cammermeyer's autobiography, Serving in Silence, was published in 1994 and the movie starring Glenn Close was released in 1995. Fine condition.
