COUNT ALBERT APPONYI - SIGNATURE(S) 1928 - DOCUMENT 23674

ALBERT APPONYI
The Hungarian nobleman and politician who was a fixture in Hungarian politics for over 40 years signed this document in black ink
Signature: "Apponyi. Alb". One page. 5¼x6¾, affixed to 6½x8¼ sheet. Note along lower margin: "This is uncle Albert Apponyi's signature for Hugo Mackay, with the former's hearty messages. Theese Gerber Apponyi Budapest 1928 March the 16th". Count Albert Apponyi (1846-1933) was the leader of Hungarian nationalists, serving as a member of Parliament for decades and as Minister of Education (1906-1910, 1917-1918). Apponyi was a major proponent of Hungarian culture, creating legislation that forced schools to teach only in the Hungarian language. He headed Hungary's delegation to the Paris Peace Conference following WWI (1919-1920), which resulted in an embarrassing defeat: the Hungary leaders were not given any room to negotiate as the losing party in the Great War. He also represented Hungary as delegate to the League of Nations. Lightly rippled from mounting. Toned. Worn edges. Light mailing crease down center horizontally. Otherwise, fine condition.
