DAVID MATHEWS. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Dr. Herman Goldberg/with best regards/David Mathews". Color, 8x10. Forrest David Mathews (born in 1935) was only 33 years of age when he became President of the University of Alabama, his alma mater. Mathews, a Democrat who served as the University's President from 1965-1975 and from 1977-1980, was the Secretary of the now-defunct Department of Health, Education and Welfare under Republican President Gerald R. Ford from 1975-1977. Since 1981, he has been the CEO and President of the Kettering Foundation. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and smudges (most not evident head on), light crease at hair. Tape remnants on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
