Photocopy of a sports cartoon celebrating his football skills, signed by him in ink
Photocopy signed in ink: "Doc Blanchard". B/w, 8½x11. Felix "Doc" Blanchard (1924-2009), the first junior to win the Heisman Trophy (1945), was a star collegiate running back. In his 3 years there, the US Military Academy went 27-0-1, undefeated, and tied only in a famous 0-0 game that pitted #2 Army against #1 Notre Dame. In 1944, when Army whipped Notre Dame 59-0, Fighting Irish coach Ed McKeever said of Blanchard, "I've just seen Superman in the flesh." Blanchard never played pro football, although he coached the Army team in the 1950s. As a US Air Force officer (1947-1971), he flew over 100 combat missions in Vietnam before retiring as a colonel. He played himself in the 1947 movie, The Spirit of West Point, and is enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. Fine condition.
