DORIS LESSING - BOOK SIGNED - HFSID 283943

DORIS LESSING
Signed first edition of her Walking in the Shade
Book signed: "Doris Lessing", 405 pages, 6½x9½. Walking in the Shade: Volume II of My Autobiography, 1949-1962, by Doris Lessing. (NY: Harper Collins Publishers, 1997). First edition hardcover with original dust jacket. Signed on title page. Doris Lessing (1919-2013) published her first novel, The Grass is Singing, in 1949, but her breakthrough novel, The Golden Notebook, appeared in 1962. Originally attracted to Marxism, she ultimately rejected the doctrine because it ignores the spiritual dimension of life. Her later works reflect her interest in Sufism. Lessing rejected a Damehood, but has accepted other honors from the Crown. In 2007 she became the oldest person ever to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Although Walking in the Shade only takes the author's life through 1962, she has not published a third volume as of 2010. Fine condition.
