The economist who taught at Washington University in St. Louis signed this First Day Cover honoring our “Nation of Readers”
First Day Cover signed: "Douglass C North", 6½x3¾. First Day Cover honoring our "Nation of Readers". The printed image depicts a family reading a book. 20-cent stamp affixed, postmarked Washington, District of Columbia, October 16, 1984, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Douglass C. North (1920-2015) and Robert W. Fogel won the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for reaffirming the importance of the research of economic history as an important method used to explain modern economic changes. He served as an expert for the Copenhagen Consensus, as an advisor to governments around the world, and as a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. North is also the author of numerous articles and books on economics. His final teaching post was at Washington University in St. Louis. Slightly creased. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
