The German Wehrmacht officer and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross signs a First Day Cover honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower.
First Day Cover signed: "Eckart Afheldt" in blue ink, 6½x3½, honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower, postmarked Washington, D.C., August 6, 1970, 6-cent U.S. stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. German Army Officer Eckart Afheldt (1921-1999) served as a Hauptmann in the Wehrmacht during World War II. A highly decorated officer, his awards include the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, the German Cross in Gold and the Infantry Assault Badge. After the war he served as a Brigadegeneral in the Bundeswehr. Fine condition.
