ELIZABETH CONYNGHAM, MARCHIONESS OF CONYNHAM I
The British noblewoman who was George IV's fourth and final mistress pens this note
Autograph Note Signed: “Dear Mr. Brent/ If not inconvenient to you, will you dine here tomorrow Friday instead of Saturday at ½ p six o" clock/ yrs sincerely/ Thursday/ May” on front and verso of a 5½x4¼ sheet. Elizabeth Conyngham, Marchioness of Conynham (1769-1861) was a courtier and noblewoman who was a mistress of George IV. She is well remembered for using the King's deep affection for her to further her family's financial and social standing. Conyngham's husband was raised to the rank of Marquess and given several other offices: he became Lord Steward of the Household and was given the Lieutenancy of Windsor Castle. In addition, Moreover, Conyngham's second son was named Master of the Robes and First Groom of the Chamber. Following the King's death, Conyngham refused the legacy bequeathed to her by the King and moved to Paris. Toned, worn, and creased in several places. Mounting tape along edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
