ELMER A. BENSON. ANS: "Elmer A. Benson", 1p, 3½x4¾. No date, no place. In full: "You have honored me by requesting my autograph. I wish you success." Irregular upper edge. Fine condition. Accompanied by original mailing envelope, 9½x4. 8-cent metered postage, postmarked Appleton, Minnesota, November 19, 1973. Addressed by Benson to: "Danny Franklin, 206 East Alice, Phoenix, Arizona 85020". Benson's return address imprinted at upper left. Elmer Austin Benson (1895-1985), a businessman and veteran of WWI, was a Farmer-Labor Party candidate elected to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Senate. Benson served as U.S. Senator from Minnesota from 1935-1936, when a successor was elected. He then was Governor of Minnesota (1937-1939). Lightly creased. Light stain at blank right margin. Overall, fine condition. Two items.
