As Emperor, he signs an 1811 manuscript letter concerning military deployments in Holland.
Manuscript LS: "Nap" as Emperor of the French, 1 page, 7¼x9. Paris, 1811 April 16. To the Duke de Feltre. In French, not translated. In part: "North Beveland and South Beveland are under the order of General Gilly...." The Dutch islands of North Beveland and South Beveland were part of Zeeland province bordered by Belgium and the North Sea. NAPOLÉON established the Kingdom of Holland and made his brother Louis Bonaparte its first king. Bonaparte was deposed in 1810, and the kingdom was annexed by France. Willemstadt, capital city of the Dutch possession Curacao in the West Indies, is also mentioned by Napoléon in this letter. With a two-line note in French, probably in Feltre's hand on a 4x1-inch slip attached by a straight pin (probably from 1811) at lower left. HENRI J.G. CLARKE, DUKE OF FELTRE, Napoléon's Minister of War (1807-1814), later served King Louis XVIII as Minister of War. He was created Duke of Feltre in 1809. Fine condition.
