ERNEST DIMNET - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 01/03/1928 - HFSID 73301

ERNEST DIMNET
Letter dated January of 1928, speaking of his soon to be released Bronte Sisters' book and his best seller Art of Thinking
Autograph Letter signed: "Ernest Dimnet", 2p, 5¼x7. On letterhead of the French liner S.S. De Grasse. New York, N.Y., 1928 January 3. Signed on second page. Accompanied by envelope addressed in same hand to "Mrs J. Wainwright, 912 Clay Ave., Scranton, Pa", postmarked Grand Central Station, New York, January 3, 1928. In full: "My very dear Friend, I am only sailing Sat. My Supper has been put off two days. Please recall to me the name of the school where Ruth used to be in Baltimore and the name of the headmistress. She might like me to lecture there next autumn. You might give me a line perhaps to the headmistress. My Bronte book will be published by Harcourt Brace within a few weeks, and my Art of Thinking a few weeks later. All good wishes for 1928. How I wish you were in N.Y. Affectionately yours.". Ernest Dimnet (1866-1954) was a French cleric, author and philosopher. His best known work, The Art of Thinking (1930) invites the reader into a state of honesty where he evaluates himself as a thoughtful human being, for humans too often only "think of thinking" instead of actually thinking, which obstructs production of any original thought. Dimnet is also well regarded for his books, What We Live By (1932) and for his popular French translations of English books written by Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte. Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
