Writing as CEO of Sears World Trade Inc., Carlucci returns a requested autograph and signed picture (items not included)
Typed letter signed: "Frank C. Carlucci", in black ink, 7¼x10½. December 23, 1986. Washington, D.C. In full: "Dear Mr. Gullikson: Many thanks for your recent note in which you request my autograph on the 3x5 card you had enclosed as well as an autographed picture. It is a pleasure to enclose these items for your collection [items not included]. Sincerely". Frank C, Carlucci (b. 1930), who was Caspar Weinberger's Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1981-1983, succeeded Weinberger as Ronald Reagan's Secretary of Defense, serving from November 23, 1987-January 20, 1989. Carlucci, whose public service also included serving as Assistant Director and Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity, Associate Director and Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget (1971-1972), Undersecretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (1972-1974), U.S. Ambassador to Portugal (1975-1978) and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (1978-1981), had also been successful in private business. He had been President and later Chairman and CEO of Sears World Trade, Inc. (1983-1986) and later became Vice President and Managing Director of the Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C. investment partnership. Heavy creased from top left corner to bottom center margin. Lightly toned. Slight surface creases. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
