FRANKLIN K. LANE - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED - DOCUMENT 26443

 
FRANKLIN K. LANE. Scarce ALS: "Franklin K. Lane" as Wilson's Secretary of the Interior, 1p, 7x9. Washington, no date except for "20th". To Hon Frederic A. Delano. No salutation. In full: "That was a most kindly thing to do, my dear Mr Delano, - to write me that note, and I very sincerely appreciate it." LANE was Wilson's Secretary of the Interior from 1913-1920. FREDERIC ADRIAN DELANO (1863-1953) was FDR's uncle. FDR was Wilson's Assistant Secretary of the Navy from 1913-1920. Delano served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board from 1914 until 1918 when he resigned as Vice-Chairman and entered the Army as a Major in the U.S. Engineering Corps. Delano served as Director of Transportation at Paris, France, attaining the rank of Colonel. In 1921, the United States Government awarded him the Distinguished Service Medal for his wartime service. Creased, slightly shaded.
