On a letter signed and dated in 1801, the decorated Admiral and flag
captain of Rear Admiral Horatio Nelson's ship HMS Vanguard at the Battle of the
Nile sends warm congratulations to a friend on the birth of his newborn child.
He signs a manuscript letter (1811) authorizing reassignment of some
high-ranking French officers from Naples, but warns that the King of Naples (his
brother in law, Murat) may soon have too few officers in his service.
As King, he signed this military appointment of a lieutenant of naval artillery on
December 12, 1818. On verso is a confirmation of the appointment, signed one month
later by the Duke of Angouleme as Admiral of France. In 1830, the Duke would reign for
