Photograph signed: "N Schwarzkopf". Color, 10½x13¼. As Field Commander of the Coalition Forces during the Persian Gulf War, four-star General H. Norman Schwarzkopf commanded Operation Desert Storm (January 16-February 27, 1991) to one of the most decisive victories in the history of warfare. The West Point graduate first saw action in Vietnam, where he served two tours of duty: the first with the Vietnamese Airborn Division and the second as Commander of the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, 198th Infantry Brigade of the American Division. His heroism earned numerous medals, including three Silver Stars, two Purple Hearts and the Legion of Merit. On October 25, 1983, Schwarzkopf led U.S. ground forces during the invasion of Grenada, resulting in promotion to Lieutenant General. "The Bear", who retired on September 1, 1991, detailed his experiences in the best-selling autobiography, It Doesn't Take a Hero. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 20½x30.
