The Commander of US Forces in Afghanistan is shown in his Marine uniform earlier in his career
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Jeffrey/Best wishes/John R. Allen/B Gen USMC". Color, 8x10. On July 18, 2011, General John R. Allen (b. 1953 or 1954) succeeded General David Petraeus as Commander of US Forces in Afghanistan and of the International Security Assistance Force. His earlier duties included command of the 2nd Brigade, 6th Marine Division in the Caribbean and the Balkans and commanding general of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Iraq (2006-2008). He was the first Marine to serve as Commandant of Midshipman at the US Naval Academy (2002). Pictured here as a brigadier general, Allen now wears four stars. Fine condition.
