The British artist signs this 9½x13 print of his painting entitled "Cleopatra's Needle"
Printed art signed in ink: "GSFletcher" in blue ink. 9½x13. The obelisk was originally built in 1500 B.C. and moved to its spot in London in 1878. Each side of Cleopatra's Needle was inscribed by Rameses II to celebrate his victories. Geoffrey Scowcroft Fletcher (1923-2004) was a British artist and art critic, and is best known for his 1962 book The London Nobody Knows. He was educated at the University of London and the Slade School of Art. His drawings appeared in British newspapers such as The Guardian and The Sunday Times, and he worked for The Daily Telegraph from 1962 to 1990, as a writer and illustrator. The London Nobody Knows was made into a documentary film in 1967, directed by Norman Cohen and narrated by British actor James Mason. Other books of Fletcher's include Pearly Kingdom (1965), Offbeat In the City of London (1966), London After Dark (1969), and Portraits of London (1978). Corners slightly rounded. Print affixed to sheet of paper with ink notes and holes punched at bottom edge. Collector's seal stamped in bottom right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
