GEORGE E. ADAMS
Signature of the Illinois Congressman
Signature: "GE Adams/Illinois". 7¼x2¾. George Everett Adams (1840-1917) was a Republican politician and lawyer who was a U. S. Representative from Illinois from 1883 to 1891. Originally born in Keen, New Hampshire, Adams moved to Chicago with his family in 1853, later serving in the First Illinois Artillery during the American Civil War. Following his service, Adams completed his studies at Harvard Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1865. He was elected to the Forty-Eighth Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, but was unsuccessful in 1890 for reelection. Signature faint, but legible. Fine condition.
