HORATIO SEYMOUR. Partly Printed DS: "Horatio Seymour" as Governor of New York, 1p, 17x13½. On vellum. Albany, 1863 January 24. Appointment of John Dickhardt as 1st Lieutenant of the 6th Regiment of the National Guard. Seymour served as Governor of New York from 1853-1855 and 1863-1865. In 1868, he was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for President, losing to Grant 3.0 million to 2.7 million popular votes, 214-80 electoral votes, 26-8 states. Folds, horizontal fold touches signature. Lightly stained blank margins. Lightly creased. Fine, 2¼, orange state seal.
