The Nonconforming English minister apologizes for late transmittal of
Autograph Letter signed: "Henry Allon", 2 pages (front and
verso), integral leaf. London, 1891 October 6. To "B. W. Austin Esq.",
in full: "Your letter has been sadly neglected. I have been some
weeks in Scotland, and from the beginning of the year have been somewhat out of
health and have found difficulty in keeping pace with the demands of each day. I
send you autographs of Mr. Birney, Dean Stanley, Dr. Norman Macleod of Glasgow,
Dr. John Harris (author of Memoriam [?], Dr. W. Lindsey Alexander of
Edinburgh. I have selected the least important letters that I could find - as
answering the purpose of autographs equally with more important letters. I add a
note of the late Professor [?], and one of Prof Wright (editor of [?]
and author of Life. I am faithfully yours". Nonconforming English
clergyman Henry Allon (1818-1892) was long associated with Union Chapel,
Islington (Greater London), its sole pastor for 40 years (1852-1892). He was
the author of several biographies of religious leaders, and published
collections of his sermons and compilations of hymns. Normal mailing folds.
