The Nonconforming English minister apologizes for late transmittal of some autographs.
Autograph Letter signed: "Henry Allon", 2 pages (front and verso), integral leaf. London, 1891 October 6. To "B. W. Austin Esq.", in full: "Your letter has been sadly neglected. I have been some weeks in Scotland, and from the beginning of the year have been somewhat out of health and have found difficulty in keeping pace with the demands of each day. I send you autographs of Mr. Birney, Dean Stanley, Dr. Norman Macleod of Glasgow, Dr. John Harris (author of Memoriam [?], Dr. W. Lindsey Alexander of Edinburgh. I have selected the least important letters that I could find - as answering the purpose of autographs equally with more important letters. I add a note of the late Professor [?], and one of Prof Wright (editor of [?] and author of Life. I am faithfully yours". Nonconforming English clergyman Henry Allon (1818-1892) was long associated with Union Chapel, Islington (Greater London), its sole pastor for 40 years (1852-1892). He was the author of several biographies of religious leaders, and published collections of his sermons and compilations of hymns. Normal mailing folds. Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
